PRINCIPLE FUNCTION

The Director of Music is responsible for assisting the Senior Pastor in planning, conducting and
evaluating a comprehensive music ministry for St. Peter’s Reformed Church. In addition to having a
passion for Christ and for music, the Director of Music must be in touch with both the classical and contemporary
styles of music and worship, in order to communicate and blend them for the congregation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent musical and public speaking skills, as well as interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Agrees with and supports the Vision, Mission, Purpose and Statement of Faith of St. Peter’s Reformed Church.
  • Willing to undergo any certifications or background checks mandated by law or at request of St. Peter’s.

SPECIFIC LIST OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to the Senior Pastor.
  • Meet with the Senior Pastor regularly to review and modify (if necessary) the Church’s music program.
  • Supervise the work of the Organist and other Church Vocalists and Musicians.
  • Recommend the selection of opening worship songs, hymns, and other music for worship services to the Senior Pastor.
  • Coordinate rehearsal and performance schedules for all music ministries, including the Senior Choir, Praise & Worship Leaders, Bell Choir, and Special Music providers.
  • Serve as the Senior Choir Director and lead regularly scheduled rehearsals, as well as select the
  • anthems for worship services.
  • Work closely with the Audio/Visual Crew on specific needs for each service.
  • Responsible for scheduling all Special Music and Accompaniment (if required), especially during the months of June, July, and August, making sure to coordinate with the A/V Crew.
  • Serve as a member of the Worship Committee, and meet regularly with them.
  • Select, order, catalog and file all choir music.
  • Maintain financial accountability through regular reports to the church Consistory.
  • Submit annual request for music budget to the church Deacons by September 15th.

COMPENSATION

  • Estimated hours are approximately 8-10 per week.
  • Beginning approved Salary is $10,000 per year.

Employment Administration

  • Each employee hired is subject to up to a 90-day continuous probationary period. This will give the employee an opportunity to become acquainted with the job, as well as provide time for the leadership of St. Peter’s to evaluate his/her performance.
  • In the event of termination of employment by either party, the terminating party shall provide a two-month notice. The amount of time may be shortened if both parties are in agreement.
  • Vacation time is based on the vacation policy of St Peter’s Reformed Church.
