JR. Church

Matthew 19:14   Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Junior Church (JR. Church) is a great opportunity for children ages 3 through Third Grade to learn about the message of our Sunday sermon in kid friendly terms and having fun with kid friendly activities based on the sermon.  It allows the opportunity for children to feel a valued part of the wider church and to learn about God in a way that is relevant to them. While we embrace having children in our Sunday services, and we do not mind the busyness and noise they can often add to the audience, we want parents to have an opportunity for their children to learn to the best of their abilities while they are with us. So we have a Children's Message each Sunday during our church service, and then afterwards children are ushered to a classroom where they learn and have fun! At the end of the service, parents come to the classroom to pick up their child(ren).
When does it run?
Every Sunday morning after the Children's Worship message. The children come to the adult morning service at 10:15 for the first fifteen to twenty minutes and then split off for their own activities.

How many children attend?
On average, anywhere from 15 - 20 + children are involved each Sunday.

What about the helpers?
We have a team of dedicated teachers and helpers who have the children’s interests at heart and make each week as exciting and relevant as possible. All of the teachers and helpers rotate time each week and follow a church calendar so everyone can see who is instructing each week.

The Junior Church mission statement
At St. Peter's Church, we place a strong emphasis on aligning our activities to follow the overall mission of the Church. This means that we are all pulling in the same direction, with the same goal in mind: “to be more like Jesus” and provide children with a child friendly message relevant to the message of the current Sunday's sermon.

The Junior Church Vision –
As a united team of leaders, we seek to model for children how to become Christ followers.

The Junior Church Mission –
(What we are going to achieve) To supplement the family in their attempt to lay down a spiritual foundation that, in God’s timing, will lead a child into, and later grow in, a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

The Junior Church Values – (How we will achieve our mission)
  1. To accomplish our mission, we must be child targeted in our approach.
  2. We value relevant teaching that is application oriented to reach today’s children.
  3. We want to teach the Bible in a creative and engaging way in order to be on the wavelength of our children.
  4. We value shepherding times within small groups, where we can model an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
  5. We want Junior Church to be both a safe and fun place for all of our children.
I hope this has given you a flavor of what Junior Church is all about. If you would like to know more, please feel free to contact us. We would love to have your child(ren) join us and welcome them any Sunday that works best for you! If you would like to try it out - see us on Sunday morning!
