Our Name
Our name changed several times over the years. In 1912, we became St. Peter’s Reformed Church, as we joined the Pittsburgh Synod of the Reformed Church. In 1936, we became St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, as the Reformed Church merged with the Evangelical Synod of North America. In 1958, we became St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, as the Evangelical and Reformed Church joined with the Congregational Christian Churches to form the United Church of Christ. In 1990, our congregation took the steps necessary to change the name of our church to: St. Peter’s Reformed Church, United Church of Christ. With this change, we continue to emphasize and maintain our long cherished and proud historical identity with the Protestant reformers of 1523, in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1998, our congregation felt strongly about adhering to the biblical foundation and conservative teachings of the reformation period and voted to leave the U.C.C. Since that time, we have returned to the 1912 name, St. Peter’s Reformed Church and affiliated ourselves with the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (4C’s).
Our Theology
Theologically, we owe much to Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Calvin. We appreciate the fundamentals of the faith that these men provided as a basis for our worship and our study. St. Peter’s is proud of our Reformed roots and the growth we have experienced, spiritually and numerically. We continue to remain faithful to the tenants of the faith while trying to be culturally relevant in our worship and fellowship.
Our Mission
St. Peter’s Mission Statement proclaims, “To know, love and follow Jesus Christ as devoted disciples by doing together what we cannot do alone, in reaching the least, the lost and the lonely by reaching up, reaching out and reaching in.”
Our mission statement is one that continues to encourage and inspire our congregation to fulfill the great commission while promoting community among believers. We have much to be thankful for as we continue on our quest to be the church God has called us to be. Join us on our journey to know, love and follow Jesus now and in the future.
